While wild animals are hunted in Christian villages, families in Muslim villages dry the insects, locusts and insects collected and feed them to their children.

THEY WERE WELCOMED WITH JOYFUL DEMONSTRATIONS

After a long and arduous journey lasting about 6 hours, Help Yetim volunteers arrived in Kamuli region and were welcomed with the welcome ceremony and joy of the region by the victimized and needy residents of the region who were looking forward to the aid they would receive. Cahit Ataş, the President of Help Yetim Humanitarian Aid Organization, had a conversation with the local people and talked about the hunger in the region with the leaders of the region. Ataş experienced emotional moments when he saw a five-year-old girl eating insects on a plate in her hand due to hunger.

After meeting with the child's mother, Ataş said, “We witnessed with our own eyes that people here eat insects and insects out of hunger. Those who live in Christian villages told us that they hunt rats and mice in order not to die of hunger. The situation here is very grave. People are experiencing a great famine because they could not harvest their crops due to excessive rains and floods last year. That is why we chose this region. After a 6-hour arduous journey, we reached here.

The situation is really deplorable. We learned and taught once again that Ramadan is the month of blessings, the month of cooperation. We were ashamed of our humanity in the face of the scene we encountered. We are happy if we could help them even a little bit. On behalf of the local people here, we would like to thank once again our benefactors who sent their aid here.”

The local people who received food aid including flour, oil, kidney beans, salt and rice, enough for a family of five for a month, thanked Help Orphan Volunteers for the aid they received. Jonahan Dorilbar, one of the local people who came to Help Orphan Volunteers who stopped in one of the Christian villages, said that they had to go hunting for wild animals because of hunger. Explaining that they were in a difficult situation because they could not harvest last year, Dorilbar said that they went wild animal hunting every week and asked for help by showing the mice and rats he caught to eat.

LATEST SITUATION IN UGANDA

According to information compiled from United Nations (UN) data, approximately 23 million people in East African countries such as Somalia, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Kenya, Djibouti, Sudan, Uganda and Burundi are in need of emergency food aid. Famine and starvation-related deaths are increasing, raising concerns about the future of the people of the region. While severe drought and civil war are the main causes of the food crisis, economic instability, changes in the rainfall regime and migration traffic are also among the factors that trigger the crisis. Food prices continue to rise in the region due to animal deaths and declining harvests.

Help Yeti, which carries out Ramadan Organizations with the slogan “Ramadan is the best month for sharing!”, has set the Food Package at €30, Eid allowance at €10, Orphan Dressing at €35, Fitrah at €10, Collective Iftar at €3 and Atonement at €10 per day.
