Search and rescue and debris removal operations continue in the provinces affected by the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş. Turks living in European countries are also organizing aid campaigns and delivering the aid they have collected to the earthquake-affected regions.

Help Yetim Humanitarian Aid Organization continues its search and rescue and humanitarian aid activities with 10 vehicles in 5 cities in the earthquake zone with 130 personnel, 15 of whom are European experts and 115 of whom are local volunteers. The organization carried out search and rescue, hot food distribution, distribution of food parcels, medical supplies and distribution of tents to villages in the earthquake zone.

Cahit Ataş, President of Help Yetim Humanitarian Aid Organization, stated that they distributed aid in various fields for the earthquake victims and said, “As soon as the earthquake happened, our first team set off upon the call of our volunteers in Turkey. In the first three days, we focused on search and rescue operations. Since there was a lot of need for aid in the earthquake that affected a very large area, we quickly planned aid according to the urgent needs of each province with our volunteer teams in the cities. Then, with our other teams coming from different parts of Europe, we are currently working on the establishment of a tent city with 500 tents.”

“TURKEY IS OUR HOMELAND AND WE HAVE COME TO PAY OUR DEBT TO OUR HOMELAND”

Stating that they are working together with the governorships and disaster crisis centers in the earthquake regions, Ataş said, “We have been in the field for a week. We are acting together with aid organizations in Turkey. We are trying to serve in the areas determined by the governorships and disaster crisis centers. Turkey is our homeland and we have come to pay our debt to our homeland. We have come to serve our people. Today is the day of unity. We have made a 3-month aid plan for the earthquake region. Our teams helped to remove many injured people from the rubble in search and rescue activities. Most recently, in the 138th hour, we supported the extraction of a wounded 17-year-old young man from a wreck in Adıyaman.

We are also providing support in other debris. There is a great need for help in the earthquake region. The earthquake region is very big and our state is big, but we cannot put this burden only on the back of the state. Today is the day to embrace each other in unity and brotherhood. We need to learn lessons from these earthquakes. Our urgent call for help continues. We invite all our expatriates to help. The donations will be planned and delivered according to the need in coordination with the Governorships and Disaster Crisis Centers. It is the day to do whatever one can do,” he said.
