Eid al-Adha celebrations began a day later than in Turkey, bringing joy to Muslims in Tanzania with hundreds of sacrificial animals provided by the Help Yetim Humanitarian Aid Organization. In the town of Ikwiriri, Tanzanian Muslims flocked to mosques with their families to participate in the Eid prayer, marking the beginning of this special holiday.

Dressed in traditional attire, local residents created a vibrant scene at the mosques, with children in their festive clothes joining in. Women also participated in the prayer from designated sections. Following the prayer, the community shared greetings, and the sacrificial animals were slaughtered, followed by shared meals and celebrations.

Vivid Festivities
The sermon after the prayer emphasized unity and solidarity, with prayers for peace and well-being. The festivities spilled into homes and streets, creating colorful and joyful scenes. Help Yetim, an organization established by Turkish citizens in Europe, participated in the Eid prayer and celebrated with the local community. They also distributed festive clothes and sweets to children.

Two-Day Sacrifice Process
Help Yetim Humanitarian Aid Organization announced that sacrifices, donated from Turkey and Europe, would be carried out over two days, ensuring they reached those in need. Cahit Ataş, President of the organization, highlighted that this year they have extended their aid to 20 countries across three continents.

In the rural Ikwiriri region in Tanzania’s southwest, the slaughter of large sacrificial animals took place under the supervision of Help Yetim teams. Ataş emphasized the significance of these sacrifices, saying, “Our presence here is a reminder that they are not alone, that their brothers and sisters in Europe and Turkey are always with them.”

Eid Celebrations a Day Later
Ataş reminded that Eid celebrations in Tanzania occur a day after Turkey due to local moon-sighting criteria, leading to a delayed start for the sacrifices. Differences in the timing of religious holidays among Islamic countries can occur as some rely on local moon sightings instead of global observations.
