Muslims in the city of Ikwiriri flocked to mosques for the Eid prayer. The faithful in Ikwiriri, accompanied by their children, gathered at local mosques dressed in traditional attire, creating a colorful display. Children, wearing their special Eid clothes, were particularly excited, and women prayed in their designated sections. After the prayer, greetings were exchanged, sacrifices were made, and meals were enjoyed.
Vibrant Scenes of Celebration
The sermon after the prayer called for unity and togetherness, accompanied by prayers. Vibrant scenes of celebration filled homes and streets during the holiday. The Europe-based Help Yetim Organization, established by Turkish citizens, participated in the Eid prayer, shared holiday greetings with the local community, and distributed sweets and festive clothes to children.
Two-Day Sacrifice
Help Yetim Humanitarian Aid Organization will continue to sacrifice and distribute the animals donated from Turkey and Europe over two days. Cahit Ataş, President of Help Yetim, explained that the organization received donations for large livestock in the Ikwiriri region of the United Republic of Tanzania and will deliver the meat to those in need. He emphasized that this year, sacrificial donations reached 20 countries across 3 continents. The sacrifice of large livestock in the rural Ikwiriri area, located in the Southwest of the country, was carried out under the supervision of Help Yetim teams.
Highlighting that the sacrifice serves as a reminder to support the needy and oppressed in many parts of the world, Ataş said, “By being here, we remind them that they are not alone and that their brothers and sisters in Europe and Turkey are always by their side.”
Eid Celebrations Delayed by One Day
Ataş noted that the celebration of Eid in Tanzania begins a day later than in Turkey, which is why the sacrificial procedures started today. Due to differences in the Islamic lunar calendar-where some countries base their holiday on the sighting of the crescent moon locally rather than internationally-Islamic nations can celebrate both Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha on different days.
